Hungary has taken a formal step towards establishing its first income tax treaty with New Zealand. Government Resolution 1254/2026. (VIII. 7.), published in the Hungarian Official Gazette on 7 August 2026, authorises the Hungarian government to sign the agreement.
No income tax treaty has previously existed between the two countries, so the treaty will break entirely new ground in their bilateral tax relationship. The resolution authorises signature only; the treaty must also be formally signed and subsequently ratified by both states before it can enter into force.
No text of the treaty has been made public at this stage, and the date of signing has not been announced.
